Self-Care September
Reflections, New Adventures, and Self-Discovery
August was indeed a girls’ girl month! But it made me incredibly happy to be immersed in things I love while giving myself the space to try new experiences, like surfing and record collecting, I kicked off my collection with a Sade record and stumbled upon a set of Haitian records at a local shop. Slowly but surely, it's growing! As we step into September, I’m manifesting and praying for an even more fulfilling month—hopefully with a little more balance and some much-needed self-care, too!

Lately, I’ve been deep into reading Build It and They Will Come by Cat Lantigua, who I’ll actually be in conversation with this Saturday at Adanne Bookstore. I’m so excited to see you there! While reading, one idea that really stood out to me was how our shadow selves can influence what we create—our true motives. So often, we focus on creating with the intention of helping others, but sometimes, those hidden parts of us slip through.
One example from the book hit close to home: convincing ourselves that we're doing good for others, but deep down, the drive might be rooted in avoiding aspects of our personal lives or seeking validation from our peers. It made me pause and reflect on my own journey. I’ve always been able to see this in others but never fully recognized it in myself. I started noticing where I tie my identity to my ideas, worrying about things like losing followers or becoming so fixated on monetization that I lose sight of the bigger picture.
The body has a way of signaling when we’re out of alignment—something Cat also touches on. For me, when my chest feels tight, not in the excited way when something good is on the horizon, but in that lingering discomfort, I now know it’s time to listen. When I feel frustration creeping in, I take it as a sign that my focus is off. Through it all, I’m learning to be patient with myself and celebrate the courage it takes to consistently put my ideas into the world.
As we move into a new month, I’d love to hear from you: how do you recognize when you’re out of alignment, and what steps do you take to reset? Let’s continue the conversation, and I can’t wait to see you at the bookstore on Saturday!
In our very first newsletter, we introduced you to Brooks Welch aka Soul Sugar Joint as our inaugural mix, and I’m excited to share that she just took over Soulection Radio this week! I’ve been listening non-stop and sharing it with everyone. In celebration of this amazing milestone, I invite you to tune in and enjoy her incredible set!
